Song Idea from a guitar line Rob was playing while setting up to add guitar to the song tentatively called puano

started the tempo at 100bpm which was too fast, lowered to 90bpm too slow, 95 bpm seemed to work.

After messing around with this line came up with a second part. But it was in a different key and we altered it to be in the same key.

Tried a couple of different ways to get them to transition from one part to the other.

Created a drum beat in hydrogen using the Synthie-1 sound library. Strayd away from the original straight beat idea that was going to be used.

Tom recorded a vocal idea on his phone for the song.

Worked on a drum beat for the song and added a keyboard line using ZynAddFX Simple Brass Effect and had on the slide feature to get a slide down sound from note to note and ended on a low note during a pause in the guitar line.

Added a second organ idea but wasn't sure if it needed to be there or if it really fit as it was.

Add audio and get footage or notes about the part I played

Rob re-recorded a hi-hat part Tom had used for the song as more of a straight forward swing with accents.

Rob recorded an drum part using the Roland Octopad with the song running it through the rakarrack effects.

Decided it would work with playing along with the original drum beat on the first part but then have the original beat drop out and have him play a straight beat during the second part or break down.

After recoding this he had a drum idea we decided to save to work on later.

Rob brought and 80's roland midi bass. It was hilarious looking and had a handle. But it actually sounded pretty good.

We re-worked the second part of the song and took out the main guitar and had the bass play the part in a dub bass style.

On the second half of it we added a guitar lead we recorded last time we practiced.

Then added guitar hits to the brass keys on the first part.

Because of the dub bass line on the second part we decided to add some over blown echo and delay guitar to it.

Setting up the arrangement for the second half of the song

Out of the dub part created last time went into the static sound cowbell part from the original sketch of the song.

did 2 passes of it and thought it needed something over it to tie together the loop of the part.

Tom sugested a broken up part of the lead from the previous part.

Used a condenser mic on the bass mandolin and Rob and Tom worked out the rythem for it as more of a broken triplet and then stretched it out with some warbly whole notes.

Needed something to bridge into the main line from there so set up the electric guitar to do a build or some hits into the next main part.

As we were recording rob accidentilly hit a harmonic string before the power hits into it and we kept it in.

When listening back Tom like what he heard from the power hits into the next section and said he missed them when they weren't there so we added them to the whole part and to mix it up they went up and half down and the last hit was just one instead of the full 1234 so they didn't interfere with the slide down of the keyboard line.

While listening back rob played a rhodes line over the "dub" like middle part and we used it as a thought for the first half before the guitar line comes in.

Redoing the drum beat the the "dub-like" section hooked up the drum pads to the eq rack and trying out sounds with brighter tones. Tom wanted them to be a little quicker on the decay as well.

Rob rigged it up so the the to different pads would run through separate eq's so they would still be recorded at the same time but have independent tone controls going in.

Realized the bass line recorded over the old drum line now didn't match since the latency issues we had while doing it originally made it a bit off so we re-recorded the bass.

Rob wanted to mess with the idea of randomizing the notes even more on the cowbell static breakdown part so we video taped him trying out a few different ideas.

Picking up from last time. We didn't get a part we liked for the bass mandolin part.

Rob tried again and started playing in more of a quick spanish feel that we liked so we worked on that.

After finding a melody we liked, one take Rob came in late and just took out certain parts of the original idea. Listening back we thought it fit much better and kept it.

Tom and Rob thought of creating an intro part to the song. Rob anted to use the extra guitar like hit used at the least part of the song coming out of the break down that was added and Tom said he had a similar idea but using just the guitar background part from the b-part and a cymbal tempo beat and random rhythm hits. Decided both those ideas might work well together for the part.

Tom didn't like the dreamy guitar part in there after all cuz then it made when it really came to that part it had less impact. So they took just that guitar part out for now but kept the rest of it.

Tried a few different things but nothing hit yet.

Talked to Professor Kliq from Chicago about collaborating on a song and thought about trying this one. After creating loops to send him, decided to take the loops and make a new arrangement, decided to take out the main guitar and the square key hits.

Added an intro from different parts from the song with new bass line.

While arranging it, on the second verse overlaped the first part of the second guitar line with the verse line and liked the way it sounded.

Went from the the idea of the second guitar line with the verse line into the second part and added the guitar hits in the break down with an AM modulation effect for fun.
