Tom Showed the song idea he had and after a bit of trying it out came up with a more pulsing rhythm for the keys and using the chamber strings setting on the Korg.

The new key part fell into place after Rob and Cliff came up with their rhythm part idea.

Cliff thought the bridge change seemed more natural coming out of the chord that starts the verse instead of it's usual progression.

Then while Rob and Tom were just banging out a part in half-time for fun Cliff suggested that were try that for the chorus. The other change being more of a bridge.

Trying to get a tempo recording of the parts for the song.

Decided on a tempo of 120bpm.

First recorded keys and drums

Then drum track for sampling

Then a take using the half-time part from the previous practice.

Worked on the arrangement of the song. Using the 2 main parts that existed and using the half-time part that had come up as the last session.

Not to over think what the chorus should be, it became an extension of the "lead" bridge holding on the A chord the keys do for 4 measures then the F for 2 measures and the G for 2 measures, going back into the main verse at normal time. Thinking that maybe the last chorus should be 2 times.

Song structure:

  • Verse (A=EAC, F=DFA) - 4 times through
  • Lead bridge (A=EAC, E=EGB, F=DFA, E=EGB)
  • Verse - 4 times
  • Lead bridge (in half-time)
  • Chorus (A, A, A, A, F, F, E, E)
  • Verse
  • Chorus
  • Verse

Ran the drum looped in the background and had Rob take a pass at a guitar idea.

After a while we came up with a rhythmic idea.

First it the notes were held then at around 1:35 in the recording Rob played the part staccato which seemed the best way to do it.
